Prayer: a Poem

Prayer

(Written Thanksgiving Day, 2026)

I could sit
in a pew reciting psalms
or stand
in a kitchen peeling apples;
Maybe walk
through the wet night sky
of fallen stars that
dance across the path
by where the buckeyes
open their husks, offering
their heart to the elements,
the Earth, their maker.

It is all praise, all thanksgiving,
for the gift, the blessing,
the knowing,
of being alive,
with you and through you
and to you and for you
and this great wild world.
Amen.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving, Kim. I totally resonate with your poem and wonderful images.. all of living is Thanksgiving.

  2. I love how the poem lets prayer live as easily in peeling apples as in reciting psalms, and the buckeyes “offering their heart to the elements” is such a tender image of gratitude. A beautiful Thanksgiving blessing, Kimberly. 🌹
