The There and The Then and the What Will Be… a Poem

Morning at home, having been away for three weeks

The There and the Then and the What Will Be

There were things that I could have done
before leaving:
The sink which hadn’t seemed
all that bad; the community of goods
gathered in the fridge
who since my going
and returning once again,
have overstayed their welcome;
desktop mountain ranges
with would-be landslides
arranged to topple
with the slightest addition.
However, standing as I am
in a cool half-lit kitchen,
water running with live music playing
a personal concert carried from the Gardens and
through the window on a sea scented breeze,
I’m glad I waited.
There is a freshness to starting anew
by cleaning up and clearing out
while bringing to the task both
the memories from away
and the imagination about the days to come.
The there and the then and the what will be,
living together in the practicalities of now
for a breath, for a dance,
for beginning once more.
