Two Things I Learned This Weekend

One
Fire is good company,
a being, breathing and chattering,
warming the spirit and easing the fingers
that reach for snacks of different sizes
to keep it satisfied.
Two
When walking beneath a pine bough canopy,
it is never too cold for the clean earth incense
of ginger-balsam-spice to rise as prayer;
every footfall reminding you
that where you are is cathedral.

As I sit in New Orleans, I can smell that ginger-balsam-spice–from 2, 200 of miles away: Oh, the joy of poetry!

I am glad you can smell it too! I thought the cold would have lessened it, but no…It was a beautiful wander full of delight and I’m glad to share it with you!
