Mercy

Composed after the sermon at Saint Andrew’s United Church of Canada, 07 March, 2021.

Mercy

Dear God, let me in my listening
show a little mercy, and offer a place
where Grace cradles faces;
draws eyes to her own
and lays claim in that blessing
to all that has grown
within someone, all that is someone,
edges and curves,
the unprotected soft spots,
the etched shields of glory,
the calm and the chaos,
withstood with her whisper
that says I know
and you know,
now breathe, take me in
Allow me to make space within
so that in our embrace,
our strength is enhanced
and with Truth as the lead
the world sees us dance.
Human, divine, feet on the ground,
upright and dignified…
when mercy abounds.
