8:53 AM At Java Blend because the frame shop on Kempt is not yet open to pick up D’s painting. A phrase I’d add to the list of others I had going at the end of the last journal insert—the list of “Phrases/Quotations of Late”—would be from A Good Story by Ada Limón… ~~I tell a friend, ‘The body is so body.’ And she nods.’~~
Feels especially apt at this moment, being in here and out of the cold mist, around other bodies and somehow glad for the proximity. It’s funny too—the music is awesome this morning and I can hear someone behind me also singing along—which I suppose means they can hear me too. Gets back to ‘the breaking’ of yesterday and the Emmaus homily that N preached. The body is so body…craving connection, wanting communion…and how is that realized? In the breaking, the sharing, the being of one whole that is so much bigger…more than can be hoped for or imagined. This time, this here, it’s in the singing…and music is what is being shared among humanity…at least those of us now gathered. And, more than that, I believe it will be shared through those of us in this place, at this moment, with others we encounter this day. The good that happens in the sharing carries forth. Huh—It is something I KNOW, not just believe…because it happens at Bookmark too…when we get singing behind the counter and notice that customers have also found voice and are joining in…inevitably there are smiles shared, there is gratitude expressed, and levity that buoys them on their way out the door once again. In those moments, augh…the body of being, of a larger, more nuanced, grace-overflowing and still challenging, body, is so intensely, beautifully, Body…
Hm—that’s the nature of true nourishment, isn’t it? It’s taken in to strengthen the Body, Mind, and Spirit…broken and given that we might then let the good that comes from it serve others and sing in this world…with abandon, invitation, and depth of joy.
