Nearer My God

Nearer my God

I have been known
to pray before flying a kite—
letting my words settle onto that
which soon will know the airborne physics
of current, of loft, and find itself
nearer my God to thee,
rising, rising, rising
and once again returning,
having scattered the seeds of my syllables
and ridden the laughter of wind.
