Choosing the Shape of a Soul

Someone asked me this morning—
They asked,
What are you praying?
Didn’t take a minute,
didn’t take a breath,
I said

The vote will be
what it is—be that
manipulated, honoured,
legal, challenged…I
have done my part and no, hear me,
no, I am not indifferent to the result.

Whatever it looks like, please
Keep the safety on.
Take that how you need to,
take it how you will…
literally, metaphorically, just please
people, keep the safety on

and let us choose well
the shape of our soul.
