Coming up at the end of this week are two of my favourite liturgical feasts—those of All Saints and All Souls. I simply love how they afford a particular opportunity to collectively call to mind loved ones that have gone before and also to envision the communion of saints who accompany us.
All Saints-All Souls 2024
Within the eddies of autumn,
the wind and leaves, the cool
ducking in between buttons,
are others who walk with us.
Others whom we thought gone,
and yet.
The way they lived their humanity
in its well laden fullness—
to the marvel and perhaps consternation
of those they surrounded;
that great swirl of being
is what radiates throughout their memory—
reminding us over and again
that they walked here, took breath
here, and are now
the bearers of insight, glimpses
into the boundless everlasting,
prisms of Love.
